SMARTbiomed summer school: “Causal inference, statistical genetics, and machine learning in common disease epidemiology and biology”

About:

The SMARTbiomed summer school in “Causal inference, statistical genetics, and machine learning in common disease epidemiology and biology” is designed to introduce researchers of all levels to modern methods of computational and statistical analysis of complex data. The module content will focus on statistical genetics, causal inference, machine learning, and implementation of methods in R packages. The summer school is also a great opportunity to broaden your professional network and to engage with the experts that are part of the SMARTbiomed Pioneer Centre. One afternoon of the Summer School will be dedicated to a “language exchange workshop” where researchers from different disciplines will come together to share knowledge and identify challenges and opportunities within their fields.

The Summer School will be held from 23rd to 27th of June 2025 at University of Aarhus Sandbjerg residential centre.

• Introduction to statistical genetics
• R Package Development
• Introduction to causal inference
• Applied Machine Learning with Python

Course Credits:

Teachers will provide certificates of course completion so that students may apply for ECTS from their home institutions.

Lodging and Transportation:

Registration includes all meals from lunch on June 23rd to lunch on June 27th, along with a single room for each night.

Travel Information:

• By Car: Approximately a 2-hour drive from Aarhus and Hamburg, and about a 3-hour drive from Copenhagen.
• From Sønderborg Airport: 10 km by taxi.
• From Sønderborg Train Station: 6 km by taxi.
